(South Africa, Tuesday 11th August) Swiss luxury watchmaker, Breitling, has opened its new retail concept in Sandton City Shopping Centre, Johannesburg.

Located on the upper level of the mall in the popular ‘diamond-walk’ wing – part of the multiple award-winning shopping centre and home to many luxury brands − the new boutique is Breitling’s latest retail space to feature the brand’s unique design concept – a contemporary urban interpretation of an industrial loft.

Commenting on the opening, Breitling CEO Georges Kern said, “We are thrilled to be opening the first newly-designed boutique in South Africa. Our new approach blends modern design with inspiration from the brand’s rich heritage and its ties to aviation. With the opening comes the arrival of our latest collections, including the all-purpose Chronomat and Navitimer 35, designed for women of style, action, and purpose.”

Ian Piguet, Managing Director, Breitling South Africa, added: “We are delighted to open the doors to this uniquely-designed boutique where guests can explore our latest collections in a relaxed and informal environment. Breitling has a strong presence in South Africa having been in the region for a number of decades. On a local level Breitling is a proud partner of Qhubeka, which has supplied more than 75 000 bicycles to underprivileged children, thereby enabling them to reach their schools far more quickly and easily, with measurable improvements in attendance and results.”

Breitling’s new 35m² boutique is a contemporary urban interpretation of an industrial loft in a dynamic city. The design of the boutique is inspired by a mid-twentieth-century industrial building as a nod to a time when the brand’s timepieces and intelligent measuring tools earned Breitling a formidable reputation. Unique artefacts such as aircraft propellers, a vintage Bentley sports car and bespoke furniture vividly bring to life the brand worlds of ‘land, sea and air’.

The new boutique is home to the entire Breitling range of timepieces, including the brand-new Superocean Heritage 57’ Capsule Collection and the Navitimer and Chronomat collections.

Since 1884, Breitling has established itself a global reputation for high-precision timepieces, its pioneering role in the development of the wrist chronograph, and its uncompromising commitment to design excellence.

With the brand’s storied association with aviation, Breitling has shared the finest moments in humankind’s conquest of the skies. Renowned for its spirit of innovation, it has also earned a place of privilege in the worlds of science, sport, and technology. Breitling manufactures its own movements in-house and the quality of every watch is confirmed by its status as a COSC-certified chronometer, made in Switzerland.
